The problem
Parents and teachers want printable activity books tailored to a child's age and interests, without hunting for worksheets or paying for a design tool.
What I built
- A library of procedural activity generators (maze, tracing, counting, matching, connect-the-dots, math, alphabet), each a pure function that turns parameters into a declarative page layout on an A4 canvas.
- One layout engine drives both the instant in-browser SVG preview and the server-side PDF export, so what users see is exactly what they print.
- Guest access with cookie-scoped accounts: visitors build books with no sign-up, and their work merges into a real Clerk account the moment they sign in.
- A bundle auto-fill that assembles a non-repeating, age-mapped run of activities, plus an optional AI word generator that falls back to a static word bank when no provider is configured.
How it fits together
- Builder UI
- Layout engine (pure functions)
- SVG live preview
- PDF route (react-pdf)
- Print-ready A4
Highlights
- Single source of truth for preview and print
- Works end to end for anonymous guests
- Graceful degradation when optional services are missing
